Manage WhatsApp templates

Sync, filter, and create WhatsApp message templates from the Template tab of a WhatsApp agent.

WhatsApp requires an approved template to start a conversation or to write to a customer after the 24-hour window. The Template tab lists the templates for your WhatsApp Business account and lets you create new ones. It appears on AI and Flow agents after you select a number in WhatsApp Settings.

View your templates

Open Template in the agent sidebar. The page shows summary cards for Total Templates, Active Templates, Avg. Read Rate, and Total Deliveries. Below them, a table lists each template.

ColumnMeaning
Template NameThe name, with a preview of its header, body, and buttons.
CategoryMARKETING, UTILITY, or AUTHENTICATION.
LanguageThe template language.
StatusAPPROVED, PENDING, or REJECTED.
Sent, Delivered, ReadMessage counts for the template.
Read RateThe share of delivered messages that were read.

Search by name or content, and filter by status with Approve, Pending, or Rejected.

Sync with Meta

Select Sync with Meta to pull the latest templates and their statuses from your WhatsApp Business account. Use it after you create or edit a template in Meta Business Manager. A confirmation message appears when the sync finishes.

Create a template

Select + Create Template. Meta reviews every template you submit.

1

Choose a category and a starting point

Select MARKETING, UTILITY, or AUTHENTICATION. Then select Start from scratch, or pick a template from the library to prefill the form. Select Continue.

2

Enter the template details

Enter a template name and choose the language, English (US) or Hindi. The name can contain lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores.

3

Add a header

On the Text tab, enter header text of up to 60 characters. On the Media tab, choose Image, Video, or Document and upload a file. Supported file types are pdf, jpeg, jpg, png, and mp4.

4

Write the body

Write the message. Use numbered variables such as Hi {{1}}, your order {{2}} is confirmed. Kipps.AI lists each variable under Variable samples, where you enter an example value for each one.

5

Add a footer and buttons

Optionally add a footer (up to 60 characters) and buttons. A button can be Quick reply, Visit website (a URL), or Call phone (a phone number).

6

Submit for review

Select Continue to open Submit for review. Check the preview on the right, then select Submit. The template appears in the list as PENDING until Meta approves or rejects it.

After approval, select Sync with Meta if the status does not update. Only approved templates can be sent from the Inbox, from campaigns, from functions, and from flow Template nodes.

Create a Meta Flow

The Template tab also lists your Meta Flows, the in-chat forms that the WhatsApp Flow node sends. Select + Create Meta Flow to build one, and Refresh to reload the list. See Message nodes.

Troubleshoot

A template I created in Meta Business Manager is missing. Select Sync with Meta, then check that the template is approved.

The template submission fails. Read the error message. Common causes are an invalid name, a missing header file, or a variable without a sample value.

A template shows REJECTED. Edit the content to follow WhatsApp's template policies, then submit it again as a new template.
