WhatsApp template node
Send an approved WhatsApp template to the lead in a workflow campaign, with an optional delay and separate outputs for each delivery outcome.
The WhatsApp Template node sends an approved WhatsApp template message to the lead that is moving through your workflow. Use it for a first message, a reminder, or a fallback when calls don't connect.
How it works
- The node sends the template from the WhatsApp number you select, to the lead's phone number.
- The node runs only while the campaign is Active. Otherwise the node ends with the Failed output.
- After sending, the node waits up to 10 minutes for the message status. Each lead follows one output. If no status arrives in 10 minutes, the node uses the latest status it can find.
- A sent message marks the lead as Contacted.
- Template messages use credits. Keep a positive credit balance.
Add the node
Open the Outbound group in the left NODES panel and drag WhatsApp Template onto the canvas. Double-click the node to open the Configure drawer.
Configure the node
| Setting | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Node Name | A name that describes the step, for example welcome-message. |
| Select Number | The WhatsApp number to send from. The list shows the numbers connected to your WhatsApp agents. |
| Select WhatsApp Template | An approved template. A preview shows the message. Only approved templates appear. |
| Parameters | For each variable in the template, a Key and a Value. |
| Delay | None, Static, or Dynamic. See Delay. |
Fill the parameters
Each variable, such as {{1}}, has a panel for the Key and the Value. Enter fixed text, or use a placeholder in double braces to fill the value from the lead. A placeholder can name:
- A contact field, such as
{{first_name}},{{last_name}}, or{{email}}. - A custom field, such as
{{city}}. {{name}}or{{phone_number}}.- A field from the data that created the lead, for example a field in the webhook request.
For a template with an image, video, or document header, enter the media URL or media ID.
Delay
- None sends the message when the node is reached.
- Static waits the number of minutes you enter.
- Dynamic waits until a date. In Select Field, choose
birthday,follow_up_date, or one of your custom fields. A number waits that many minutes. A date or date and time waits until then.
Outputs
The node has four outputs. Connect each one to the next step.
| Output | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Sent | The message was sent to WhatsApp. |
| Delivered | The message reached the lead's phone. A message that the lead has read also counts as delivered. |
| Replied | The lead replied. |
| Failed | The message wasn't sent, or WhatsApp reported a delivery failure. |
An output that you leave unconnected ends the workflow for that lead.
Troubleshoot
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| The node always ends on Failed. | Check that the campaign is Active, that a number and a template are selected, and that your credits are positive. |
| A placeholder isn't replaced in the message. | The lead has no value for that field. Check the field name, or use fixed text. |
| The template isn't listed. | Only approved templates appear. Sync your templates in the WhatsApp agent. |
